There are a number of legendary goofy foot surfers on the Peninsula and Mick Pierce is one. Master of the 'Pumping Station' before the poo hit, he has featured prominantly in the development of surfing on the Mornington Peninsula. A very competitive surfer in the 70s and early 80s, (1977 Victorian Open Champion), he has some very definite views on surfboard design going into the 90s. His boards are much in demand by those who surf the ocean breaks and by those who are considering a trip to Indonesia. Mick is now passing on his trade to son Mark, an excellent surfer in his own right, guaranteeing that the Pierce name will continue to be a force on the Peninsula.

    Views on Surfboard Design:

There is too much of the follow the Pro-surfer image and not enough individuality. Surfboard makers must get rid of the pro-finish introduced for the manufacturer and not the surfer. The finish coat will return.

(point of interest : On his recent trip to G - Land with a number of other surfers, there were in total , 21 'Pierce' boards in the party. Not one of the boards broke, while those belonging to other surfers did. Needless to say, many of the G - Land camp dwellers were keen to purchase his boards.)

    Any other comments:

I will have to think about it.
